Monday

Well we have definitely made ourselves at home with the Bergs here!

I am struck by the way that this whole trip has just been so full of loving generous people who want to help make it a great time for Adam. From the start Brian Berg has been so supportive and helpful and I am just speechless with gratitude for all that he and his family have shared with us.  We are staying at their home here in Yuba City, out in the lovely school room/guest cottage area. I am using the special school computer to write this as everyone works on a lesson in the main room outside.

Even Winnie the Pooh doesn't get out of school!

It has simply been a blast getting to be a part of Berg family these past few days. Yesterday we went into the house and Roger started making us a fancy breakfast with sausage and poached eggs and bacon, as Danke was making muffins in the background, what a treat!!

After breakfast Adam and Roger shot some hoops before the family headed off to church.

Following church was some lunch and then the big event we have all (especially Adam and Roger) been waiting for: Roger's hockey game!!

Rosie made Pooh a special sweater so he wouldn't get cold at the game.

Roger is teal #88

He shot the only point the team made, in the last 30 second of the game!!!!

Then Rosie and I had some fun skating around the rink after the game was done.

Adam was so tired he went to bed right after dinner.

Today we are taking it easy, just exploring the orchards surrounding us, playing, learning, hanging out and taking pictures. Adam took this one of Pooh bears nice new sweater.

Stay tuned for more pictures! :)

Day 4: Bridges

I don’t even have the words for today right now. So much joy and laughter and hope. And Still lots of driving. I have hopes to have some time to write and reflect tomorrow but right now I’m rather tired and I just want to share what photos I have of our day. I’m still waiting on more from Beth! Hopefully I will have them by tomorrow. Love to all.

Day 3

Wow. We did it. A whole day of driving. There may have been some smoke involved but overall it was a very uneventful drive. Some highlights were seeing a random llama on the side of the road and making it past the busy streets in the Sacramento area to the warm welcome of the Goddard and Batista family home. We took a nice walk around the block to stretch our legs a little and then had some amazing tacos for dinner. After dinner Beth left to drop Robbie off at a dance, Adam decided to go along for the ride and ended up staying and dancing for a bit with Beth. I’m still waiting for her to send me the pictures she took. After they returned we got to spend some nice time visiting with Beth and Greg before everyone hit the hay. And now it’s my turn, sorry the photos are out of order, good night!!
Dinner time!!

Mt Shatsa in the distance.

Beautiful fall walk.

Day 2: morning photos

Just wanted to share some quick photos of the morning exploring the farm. We are currently stopped for some quick lunch at an exciting new place called “subway” for lunch. We should be at the Goddard’s before dinner! I hear there might be a dance if Adam is up for it.

Llama Lland

Well we made it! The first leg of the journey is over and we are all cozy and warm in Grants Pass at my aunt and uncles house.
I want to give a little back story about how we got here and what we’re doing on this trip.
When Adam first brought up the idea of going to see our friends the Berg’s he was, inspired by seeing their lovely Christmas card on our wall for months.  I had no idea how to make it happen but knew I wanted to try. I talked to the Bergs, who were delighted at the prospect, and to Adam’s mom, Kathy, about some logistics.  Then I got to the fun part. I started by asking Adam, should we fly? Go by bus? Drive a car? Take a train? And he said car!  I asked again, telling him we would be in the car for 2 days, and he said “take it.” So I took it from there, checking out how long the drive would be, what dates would work, where we could stay. And it all eventually fell into place with some wonderful help from community mates, family and friends all over. We are staying with my aunt and uncle tonight at their farm in Grants Pass, then headed to Redwood City tomorrow to see Beth and Robbie and their family. Saturday we will go to a meeting of “Bridges” which is the emerging L’Arche community in the Bay Area. Then we will head back to the Bergs’ with them after the meeting. We will be hanging out with them for the rest of our tour.
Here in Llama Land (my childhood name for this farm) Adam has already met two dogs, one cat and one cockatoo and is excited to help check the chickens and gather their eggs tomorrow before we hit the road again. We will also get a chance to meet all the goats and llamas tomorrow!! I added some images from this first day, I tried to caption all of them but I’m doing all this from my phone so you will have to excuse any errors or blame them on technology.

We had a lovely drive, the weather was perfect and the music was good.

Adam got some good napping in.

We got to Llama Land and immediately made some new friends, this is Finn!
